Application Received Confirmation
Thank you for choosing to adopt. Please allow at least a week for a response before contacting us. We are volunteers with full time jobs, families and, of course, the animals to care for. Below explains our process:
The first step after we receive your application is for the HHLP members to review it. If it looks like your family and the animal are a good match, a volunteer will contact you by email or phone to talk with your further about the adoption process. Determining a good match takes into consideration the animal's age, temperament, your schedule and experience. Our goal is to make the best match possible! If the animal you applied for is not a good fit for you, the volunteer may make suggestions for other animals in our program that might be a better fit.
During the review process, we will conduct a vet reference check to ensure that your pets are sterilized, on heartworm preventative, current on vaccinations and that the overall quality of care you provide is high!
We require landlord references for those people renting. This ensures that you are permitted to have a pet and clarifies breed and size restrictions.
We will finalize the process by conducting a home visit. This is when a HHLP volunteer comes to your home to verify that it is a safe and appropriate place for the pet you have applied to adopt. At that time, you can also ask for suggestions about many things including: where to put the crate, where to put the litter box, how to protect certain areas of your home, etc. We bring the pet for a meet and greet with the entire family.
After this process is complete and the home visit/meet and greet went well, you will be given the green light to adopt your new family member!
