KENAI!

08_14_07_keani2.JPG (599495 bytes)I wanted to say thank you. Sammi, aka Kenai (sounds like keen-eye) is just amazing. He is so smart and loving. (He LOVES his kids) He has brought so much joy to our house. Thank you, so much for the work that you guys do. I have attached a couple of pictures of Kenai in his forever home.  Thanks again, Stephanie Duling

WINN DIXIE!

08_14_07_winn_dixie.jpg (67137 bytes)I wanted to give you an update on Winn Dixie!  My other brother took the attached picture of my younger daughter and Dixie the other day.  Dixie is healthy and happy and doing pretty well with the potty training issue.  We don't have a doggie door so we really have to pay attention to when she is wanting to go out.  She gets along really well with our other two dogs, loves going on walks and she sleeps right in between my husband and me and most nights, she snores!  Anyway, we couldn't be happier!  She is an absolutely PRECIOUS dog and we have never once regretted adopting her!  Thanks and we hope all are doing well!  Andrea Choate.

NATTIE SURVIVES HURRICANE
TO FIND HER PLACE IN THE SUN!

nattie_adopted.jpg (33415 bytes)When Hurricane Katrina was making it's way toward New Orleans, Nattie's owners had no choice but to leave her at a shelter for safety.  Helping Hands made a whirlwind trip to Louisiana and Nattie was one of the lucky pets to come back to Little Rock and find a new home.  Nattie was in our program for about 8 months (longer than most), but we knew the perfect family would come in some day ... and that is exactly what happened!  This photos shows Nattie basking in the sunshine!  What a wonderful ending to a very tragic beginning!

UPDATE ON NATTIE!

nattie.jpg (24215 bytes)Dear Foster Mom, Kris, I'm so happy with my new mom and dad, but they went a little crazy last  month. One night they brought a tree inside the house and it stayed there for weeks! Mom stuck lights and sparkly things on it. It was pretty, but I  thought trees were supposed to be outside. I was really confused. I sniffed it and tried to hide my bone underneath it, but otherwise I pretty much left it alone until one night mom kept making me "sit" and "stay" and flashing lights in my eyes and telling me to smile!  She's weird.  One day we went to my grandparents house and mom and dad ripped paper  and ribbons off of things and then they wanted me to rip paper as well. I'm not usually allowed to rip paper. I was confused again, but when all the paper was ripped I had new tennis balls to play with and a new leash.  I hope you are doing well. Happy New Year! Love,  Nattie

PEDRO & IZZY!

peeweeredblanket.jpg (152741 bytes)izzy.jpg (189008 bytes)Take a look at Thumper (left)!  We renamed him Pedro, but he responds only to “Peewee” or “Petey.” He has definitely become our “baby” and is spoiled. He has tons of toys and our older dog, Izzy (right), loves to play with him. He also has a lot of clothes because he gets cold easily. So he is always wearing a sweater or a little jacket. He has more clothes than my husband. He loves running in the yard and barking at people on the sidewalk. And he has weasled his way into our bed at night. I am sending some photos of him. They are from right around the time we adopted him. His hair has really grown in nicely and is even a bit fluffy. And he eats like a monster so he has put on some weight. He looks very healthy now.  Izzy used to be “Daisy” and we adopted her from your organization in September 2005, I believe. I included a photo of her as well. She is the most behaved dog on earth and she is so sweet. We have really enjoyed adopting from your organization.  Thank you, Jessica Chelette

ASHLEY!

Dear Helping Hands:  A little over 2 years ago we adopted a small Jack Russell from you. She was a puppy mill dog and had issues, but we knew we could pull her out of her shell. Now 2 years later, she will approach anyone who comes to our house and asks for a head scratch,.  It took my husband over a year before she would let him touch her, but now, they are inseparable. She has been such a pleasure for us, and you wouldn't know her at all anymore. Just wanted to let you know she is still making great strides in trusting people again, and is our pride and joy, as is our other adopted dog. If we ever get ready to bring a third one into our home, it will also be adopted from a shelter or rescue organization. I firmly believe all homeless pets deserve a second chance and if I could save them all I would surely do so.  Thanks for being there for them.  Mary Williams

ISABELLA ... A QUEEN?

isabella.jpg (45139 bytes)

We adopted Isabella a few years ago, on adoption day at Petsmart.  Our boy Rattie picked her out and though we weren't planning on adopting another dog, she immediately stole our hearts.  Now she is our almost constant companion (she loves car rides and outings at the park) and our children adore her!

  BOOBOO MOVES NORTH!

booboo_newboy.jpg (33133 bytes)

BooBoo found his forever home in the great state of Ohio!  While in town visiting relatives, his new mom stopped by Petsmart and could not stand to leave without taking BooBoo with her!  You just never know who is going to fall in love where!  BooBoo is shown here with his "cousin" Andrew!

ANNABELLE

annabelle.jpg (228429 bytes)

Annabelle has become a wonderful member of the family. She is settling in and feeling more secure everyday. She loves to go for rides and she loves treats!! She gets so excited when I say "Do you want a treat?!" My Chihuahua that rarely likes any other dog adores her and they play together. It cracks me up considering he is almost the same size as her head! Anyways, I wanted to tell you all thanks for the opportunity to get to know Annabelle and to bring her into my family. I also appreciate everything you do for all the other homeless animals.

We wanted to send you some pictures of Mindy, now named Maizie!  She is truly a sweet dog.  She traveled well to Maine.  Here are some photos of her on the ice playing hockey ... she chases the puck EVERYWHERE!  Lisa & Trevor

HENRI

Henri.jpg (27320 bytes)

It has been ages, but I thought you might like to see some recent photos of one of your foster babies!  Little Henri has grown into a 30-pound-ish, extremely sweet and good dog!  Thanks for taking in her mom and all the puppies!  She's our baby!  Leslie

P.S.  The first photo is from Halloween, obviously!  She wasn't too interested in dressing up.

BOXLEY

boxley.jpg (46997 bytes) boxley2.jpg (32486 bytes)

A year ago, my husband and I adopted a dog from you after I saw him at your adoption day at Petsmart on Chenal.  He is a brindle Boxer mix that the children in your neighborhood had named Tater.  We took him home and named him Boxley, after a town in the Buffalo National Forest, a place we enjoy spending free time.

In the year we have had Boxley, he has brought us lots of joy.  After a long night at work, he makes it all worth while by jumping and dancing in excitement to welcome us home.  He has gotten up to 65 pounds now, and he enjoys car rides, camping, hiking, chasing his ball, and chewing on lots of rawhide.  He is very smart and inquisitive, and we are so glad that he came to live with us.

Thank you for fostering him and giving him such a good start.  You have a wonderful organization, and we are proud to tell people we adopted our dog through you.

Thanks,

Brandy and J Smith

  KATY

BrittaniKaty.JPG (50939 bytes)
Katy is growing up quickly and having a lot of fun. She loves going to the park and she loves playing with children. We recently took her to a birthday party at a park and she licked up a Frosty Paw ice cream treat! We love Katy and feel so very lucky to have her in our family!

ANDRE
andre1.jpg (47840 bytes)

Hello, Helping Hands! Andre has been the best dog and we are so happy to have gotten him. Thanks again. He is so spoiled, we have a lake house and a boat and Andre loves it. He has a little life jacket and always gets in the water with me and sits on a float. It is so adorable. He has  stopped biting and now he is playful. We recently went to Key West and I bought the dogs COACH dog collars and jackets. They are so spoiled but we love them. The two get along great and we are so happy. Thank you soooooo much.  Valerie

CELESTE

Kiwi.jpg (92183 bytes)In July of 2002 my husband and I adopted a lovely little Siamese cat from the PetSmart Adoption center. She was going by the name "Celeste" and was being fostered by someone in the program; I seem to remember her foster mother's name being Kim. If so, you might remember her as "guard kitty," who didn't like the other animals and relegated herself to one bedroom. That's what I remember being told by her foster mom.  Whether Kim fostered her or not, perhaps you'd like to know that she was adopted into a loving and secure home. She had some medical problems when we adopted her, but now she's in fine shape. All three of us appreciate your program so much. Thank you, Leslie, Jared, and Kiwi

Pure Love!

RACHEL
emailrachel.jpg (12999 bytes)
We adopted Rachel on July 14, 2002, after seeing her picture in the paper.  She is now the sister of her beagle siblings, Millie & Chipper, and her little sister, the miniature dachshund, Gracie.  Rachel is the sweetest dog with the most loving personality.  She loves to run the yard, and even suns herself on the picnic table in the backyard.  Rachel is a wonderful, inside dog.  She sleeps under the covers  or on top of pillows just like a princess.  Thank you to Helping Hands and to Kris Rainwater for allowing us to have her foster dog!

belle01.jpg (27737 bytes)belle02.jpg (10119 bytes)I thought I would give you a update on a puppy I adopted from you. Her name is Belle and she is a sister of Wilma, Daisy and Pebbles. She is excellent dog with a very friendly disposition and has been so easy to train. She is growing quickly. Recently I fell getting out of the shower (I am disabled) and she stood right next to me so I could hold on to her and get up.  I love this dog, she is truly my best friend. I am enclosing a picture, you can see the resemblance to her sisters. Thank you for the work you do.         Alison Stone

       Gus                 Gus               Betsy & Doxie

I just want to thank you for letting us adopt the Jack Russell Terrier that you know by the name of Jake. We've since named him Gus and I wanted to let you know that he is absolutely loving his two companions, Betsy and Doxie. They get plenty of play time in the back yard and really do enjoy each other. His transition, I have found, has been far better than what I had imagined it would be. He made his first trip to our vet just last week and also got him a nice bath. They talked about how well maintained he must have been before he was so fortunate to make it into our home. Thanks for everything and please let everyone there know how happy we are!   Tony & Courtney

LUCYLU
lucy_lu_jacob.jpg (30972 bytes)

LucyLu came to Helping Hands pregnant and extremely heartworm positive.  This dog is the sweetest little girl anyone could ever hope to meet.  After having her puppies (8, no less!), LucyLu was treated for her heartworms.  She had some complications and she has been rehabbing ever since.  She is still on steriods to help her, but on Sunday, February 6, 2005, LucyLu was adopted by her new forever family!  LucyLu is now the proud owner of her very own boy, Jacob!  LucyLu is having a wonderful life, she sleeps right next to her new best friend every night!  This is a true success story for both, dog and boy!
